STAGE PRESENCE
When entering and exiting
the stage, carry your music on the side away from the audience.
REMAIN SILENT AS YOU
ENTER OR EXIT.
After arriving on stage
or after a personnel rearrangement, move forward if you have people standing
behind you to give them room for their music.
After arriving on stage
or after a personnel rearrangement, leave your music at your side until Matt
signals to raise it. Have a way to find the first piece of music in a set.
In songs that have
piano playing after the end of singing, continue to look expectantly at Matt
until the piano playing is finished and Matt drops his hands.
At the end of a song
that IS NOT the last song in a set, DO NOT immediately turn to the next piece
of music. Instead, smile at the audience
as Matt acknowledges applause. Matt will
turn back around and signal when he wants us to turn to the next piece of
music.
At the end of a song
that IS the last song in a set, put your music down at your side when the
audience starts applauding. Smile at the
audience as Matt acknowledges applause.
Matt will turn back around and signal when he wants people to leave the
stage, or to start the encore.
Do not stand stiffly or
with your knees locked while singing – this may cause you to pass out. Instead, shift your weight from foot to foot,
and shuffle around a little. IF YOU
START TO FEEL FAINT, SIT DOWN ON THE RISERS. TUG GENTLY ON THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU TO GET THEIR ATTENTION SO THAT YOU
CAN GET HELP IF YOU NEED IT.
